Trimbakeshwar is situated 28 km (18 miles) from
Nasik. It is one of the twelve
Jyotirlingas in India. The main feature of the Jyotirlinga is that it has three faces embodying
Lord Brahma,
Lord Vishnu and Lord Mahesh (
Shiva). All the others have Shiva as the main deity. The temple is known for its architecture and sculpture. It lies at the foothills of a mountain called Brahmagiri.
Godavari River originates on Brahmagiri Mountain and meets the sea near Raj Mahendri, in
Andhra Pradesh. In February-March, or
Shivratri day, a large festival is celebrated here, which attracts a large number of people from all over India. Every twelve years, the Sinhastha Fair, the most famous Kumbh Mela after the
Allahabad's, is celebrated at this place. Brahmagiri Hill, Neel Parvat. Kushawart Teerth, and Gangadwar are the main nearby attractions.
