Chandoli Sanctuary




Chandoli Sanctuary is located at the junction of four districts, Sangli, Kolhapur, Satara and Ratnagiri, in Maharashtra. The sanctuary occupies the area along the crest of north Sahyadri range of Western Ghats, forming a catchments of Warna Dam reservoir.

With an area of 309 sq km, the sanctuary is home to tiger, panther, bison, wild boar, langoor, bear, procupine, barking dear and wild dog. Birds such as koel, mynas, babblers, kingfishers, hoper and crow-pheasants are also found here.

Flora includes ain, jamun, hirda, bamboo, jack fruit and palms.

Best time to visit is from August to February.

Nearest railhead is at Kolhapur (80 km). Karad (45 km) and Islampur (55 km) on Pune-Bangalore highway are the nearest towns.
