Rajapur is a quite little town situated to the south of the Ratnagiri city in
Maharashtra, with a population around 10,499. This coastal region was once a port and a commercial centre. The land holds many famous temples and at a distance of 24 km away from the town lies a beautiful and important temple, Gajanana Mandir. Another famous shrine situated there is the Nava Durga Temple. Rajapur Ganga, a miracle of nature, is 3 km from Rajapur where the Ganga appears in the pool, Kashikundh, with great force.
There is a lighthouse on the Wagapur Point south of the Rajapur bay entrance which is 45 km from Rajapur town on the
National Highway 17. The nearest airport is at Ratnagiri. Rajapur has its own railway station on the Konkan Railway and NH 17 joins it with
Mumbai.
