Panhala




Panhala is a fascinating hill station situated 20 km off the National Highway 204, in Kolhapur District, Maharashtra. Situated at an altitude of 3177 ft above sea level, the place offers awesome view of the valley below. It is a place with rich historic heritage is dotted with several ancient fortifications and buildings.

Panhala Fort, the largest of all Deccan forts built during 1178-1209, is the major point of attraction. Sajja Kothi, and the Sambhaji Temple, Someshwar Temple and Blue Basalt Temple on the sacred Jyotiba Hill are worth visiting.

Panhala is an ideal place for trekking. The best time to visit is from October to May.

Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Terminus Railway Station is the nearest railhead (18 km). Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport is the nearest airport. Regular buses are available from Kolhapur to Panhala.
