Panchgani is a hill station in
Satara District,
Maharashtra, situated at an altitude of 1,334 m. It lies just 38 m below
Mahabaleshwar and got its name from the five hills around it. On one side from Mahabaleshwar to Panchgani one can find the
Krishna river flowing through the farms, ravines, and hamlets. On the other side there are the coastal plains.
From the time of the British, the air of Panchgani, with its high level of oxygen, has been famous for its curative and restorative effects. This is still a favorite haunt of ill and convalescing patients. The Venna Lake and Mahabaleshwar Hill Station are nearby attractions.
The Pune Lohegaon Airport is 98 km from here. The nearest railhead is also at Pune. Panchgani is well-linked by road to Mumbai, Pune, and other important places.
