Goddess Durga or Shakti, the goddess of power and vitality, has nine forms called Navadurga. The three main forms of Shakti, namely, Goddess Saraswati, Goddess Mahalakshmi and Goddess Mahakali originated from Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva respectively. Each of these three deities gave rise to two more forms. These nine forms of Goddess Durga are together known as Navadurga. Many temples have the idol of goddess Navadurga, representing the collective power of the nine forms of the goddess.
