Gajapantha Teerth is a famous Jain pilgrimage center located at
Mhasrul in
Nasik District of
Maharashtra. Mhasrul is about 7 km from
Nasik.
According to the inscriptions in the temple, the history of the temple dates back to the 9th century. The Teerth is named after the Jain Ascetic Gajsukumar, who attained salvation from this place.
The noteworthy feature of the temple is a 5 ft high, black-colored idol of Bhagvan Parshwanath in the Padmasana posture. The Teerth has a small hut known as caravanserai at the foot of a small hill, which is about 400 ft tall.
The renowned Chamber Caves are a part of this sacred place. Gajadhwaja Hillock Temple is situated nearby. The staircase, which leads to the temple, is built in black stone and offers a panoramic view.
Gajapantha Teerth is about 16 km from Nasik Road Railway Station.
