Vihar and Powai Lakes are two adjoining lakes, situated about 27 km from
Mumbai, in
Maharashtra. These vast water reservoirs were built for the supply of drinking water to Mumbai, by British in 1860.
It is now a tranquil haven, surrounded by number of shady trees, where one can rest and relax away from the hustle and bustle of the city. There is a amusing park situated beside the lakes.
Swimming on these lakes are prohibited as they are infested with crocodiles.
Vihar and Powai Lakes can be approached via King's Circle, Sion and Kurla or through Santa Cruz and Andheri.
