Mahalakshmi Temple is a revered shrine situated at
Mahalaxmi in
Mumbai,
Maharashtra. The temple is dedicated to
Mahalakshmi (the goddess of wealth) and also has images of
Saraswati and
Kali.
It is believed to be the oldest temple in Mumbai and the idols were found from the sea. Built around AD 1785, the history of this temple is connected with the building of the Hornby Vellard.
The main festival is the Navaratri, celebrated in a grand manner. Thousands of devotees throng the temple during the festive occasion.
Mahalakshmi temple is only a short distance away from Churchgate.
