Medha Patkar is the founder of 'Narmada Bachao Andolan'(NBA), a national coalition organized to stop dam projects in the
Narmada River Valley, as she claims that building dams would lead to environmental degradation and displacement of indigenous communities. Apart from being the founder of NBA, Medha is a convener of the National Alliance of People's Movements. She has also served as a commissioner to the World Commission on Dams. For her invaluable contributions, she was awarded the Deenanath Mangeshkar Award, Right Livelihood Award, Goldman Environment Prize and Green Ribbon Award by BBC.
