Matheran Light Railway was constructed by Abdul Hussain, son of a baron by name Sir Adamjee Peerbhoy of
Mumbai. The construction of the railway started in 1904, and it was thrown open to the public in 1907. This narrow gauge train covers a distance of 21 km from
Matheran to
Neral. During monsoons, as a precautionary measure against slides, the track is partially closed.
