Vengurla




Vengurla, located on the southern part of the Maharashtra coastline, is noted for its tranquil and picturesque seashore. It was a major commercial center during the Dutch and British reigns. Vengurla is 16 km south-west of Kudal.

Vengurla is famous for the Sateri Devi Temple, dedicated to Navdurga, and a 300 year old Rameshwar temple. Other places of tourist interest in and around the town include the Vengurla rocks, also known as Burnt Islands, Shiroda Village, Ganapati of Redi, Mochappa, Nevati, Vithoba Temple and the Sindhudurg and Padamgad forts - housed in the old township of Malvan.

Vengurla is now renowned for its saltpans, Chinese clay pottery and the delicious Malvani cuisine.

The nearest railway station is at Sawantwadi (24 km) on Konkan Railway. Vengurla is 524 km from Mumbai by road. The nearest airport is at Dabolim(112 km), Goa.
