Pranahita Wildlife Sanctuary




Pranahita Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in Chinnur-Mancherial forest division of Adilabad District and is about 300 km northeast of Hyderabad. The sanctuary covers an area of about 136 sq km with dry deciduous teak forests along the Pranahita River. The tourists can see the Indian porcupine along with other animals such as nilgai, sloth bear, tiger, leopard, forest cat, langur, rhesus, palm civet, Indian otter, wild dogs, and hyena and different kinds of birds including brahminy ducks, teals, strokes and herons. The prehistoric rock formation on the banks of Pranahita River, a tributary of Godavari River, is a major draw.

Best time to visit is from November to April. The tourists can stay at the forest rest house in Mancherial or Chinnur. Nearest railway station is at Mancherial which is about 35 km from the sanctuary and the nearest airport is at Hyderabad.
