Churchgate, a suburb and major business area in downtown
Mumbai, derives its name from the famous Churchgate Railway Station. The 'church' refers to the 18th century St Thomas Church, which is about half a kilometer from the station, and the gate was a 16th century gate, which was on the site where the Flora Fountain now stands.
The main attractions of the place are Bhika Behram Well and Churchgate Train Terminus, a charming Victorian building with elaborate Indian influences. The headquarters of Western Railways is situated at Churchgate.
Nariman Point, another suburb, is a kilometer south and the Marine Drive is west of Churchgate.
