Chowpatty Beach is located at the top end of
Marine Drive in
Mumbai. In the evening Chowpatty develops a magical atmosphere and is a favorite gathering place for courting couples, political rallies and families keen to enjoy fresh air. Mumbai's signature dish bhelpuri is sold on stalls along the beach.
The statues of Lokmanya Tilak and Vithalbhai Patel can be viewed from the beach. The annual Ganesh Chaturthi Festival held at the beach attracts a large number of devotees and tourists. The beach also contains a newly opened park known as 'Nana Nani Park'.
During the freedom struggle of India, many important meetings were organized at this beach.
