Ambarnath, a rapidly-growing municipal town in the Ulhasnagar tahsil, is situated on
Mumbai-
Pune railway line. The place obtained its name from a shrine dedicated to God Ambarnath (also known as Amarnath or Ambareshwar). The temple is situated on the left bank of a tributary of the Valdhan river in a hollow shaded by fruit trees.
There are factories manufacturing chemicals, matchboxes, explosives, and watches.
