Shirdi is situated in Rahata Taluk in the
Ahmednagar District of
Maharashtra. It is on the
Ahmednagar-
Manmad Highway, 250 km from
Mumbai and 75 km from
Nasik. Shirdi was the house of the saint
Sai Baba, who lived here for eighty years and died here over eighty years ago. The streets of Shirdi are lined with shops, selling Sai Baba's memorabilia.
This well-developed town is connected by bus routes. Pilgrims gather at Shirdi at all times of the year. A large number of devotees throng the place especially on Thursdays which is a special day in Sai Baba worship. Tourists can stay at one of the charitable sansthas and dharamshalas.
Sakori, home to the Upasini Maharaj, is just 5 km from Shirdi. Datta Mandir and Khandoba Temple are the other worth-visiting pilgrim spots.
Guru Poornima, Dussehra and Ramnavami are the major festivals celebrated in Shirdi. The Samadhi Mandir of Shirdi opens for the whole night only on these occasions.
Best time to visit Shirdi is from September to April.
