Shri Swami Samarth of Akkalkot, popularly known as Swami Samarth, is a household name in
Maharashtra. He lived in Akkalkot, situated in
Solapur district, for 22 years and was also called the Maharaja of Akkalkot. Devotees believe he is the incarnation of
Lord Dattatreya.
The early life of Swami Samarth is not known. Before coming to Akkalkot he was in the Himalayas. He came to Akkalkote in 1856. He is believed to have performed many miracles. He attained Mahasamadhi in 1878.
