University of Pune, a State University, was established in 1948. It is located in the north western part of
Pune.
The university building is built in Italian Gothic style and lies near Ganeshkhind. The jurisdiction of the university extends to five districts, namely, Pune, Ahmednagar and Nasik. It has about 269 colleges affiliated to it and 129 recognized research institutes.
