Bagh Caves




Bagh Caves is located 50 km west of Mandu on the road between Indore and Vadodara. The caves are situated 6 km from the village of Bagh. It consists of Buddhist caves dating between 400 and 700 AD.

Bagh Caves are famous for paintings which resemble those found at Ajanta caves. Beautiful paintings decorate the walls and ceilings of rock-cut caves which were used for the residence, meditation and for holding the religious congregations of Buddhist monks. There are nine caves at Bagh, of which five are (Nos. 1-5) important. There is a large central cell enshrining a stupa at the back end.
