Oriental Magpie Robin (Copsychus saularis) is slightly bigger than a sparrow. Male is pure white and glistening black while female is grayish brown and white. The bird has cocked, white-fringed tail.
It is a melodious singer, with different embellishments at dawn and dusk. The bird often mimics other bird calls. Nest is holes and hollows in trees and walls. Nests are made of grass, rootlets and hair. Females lay 3 to 5 eggs. The bird mainly feeds on insects in leaf litter and nectar of certain flowers. Oriental Magpie Robin is locally called Dhaiyal or Dhaiyar.
