Mumtaz Mahal, also known in history as Arjumand Bano Begum, was the daughter of Asif Khan, brother of
Noorjahan. In 1612, she married
Shah Jahan, the ruler of the
Mughal Empire. They had 14 children, seven of them died in infancy. She died in childbirth at the age of 39, in 1631. Shah Jahan made a marvelous tomb for his beloved wife. The tomb is popularly known as Taj Mahal. It is the most beautiful building in the world and a perfect example of the Mughal architectural style.
