Maihar Shiva Temple, built in the year 960, is situated at
Maihar in
Satna District of
Madhya Pradesh.
The temple has a pancha-ratha sanctum, tall Shikhara of elegant proportion and a small porch. There are two rows of sculptures on the wall of the sanctum, which adds beauty to the projections and recesses. The sculptures on the lower row show cult-images and the upper row displays couples. The prominent offsets are carved with sculptures of regents and apsaras and vyalas in the remaining offsets and recesses.
Maihar is about 40 km from Satna.
