Rewa, the seat of administration of
Rewa District, is an old town situated 420 km north-east of
Bhopal, in
Madhya Pradesh.
Its early recorded history dates back to the 3rd century BC when the town was ruled by the Mauryas. From 9th to the end of 12th century, Rewa was under the rule of the Kalchurls. The region came under the British administration in 1812 and until India's independence in 1947 Rewa was a princely state in the Bagelkhand agency of Central India.
Places of tourist interest in the town include many ancient temples and 19th century palaces.
Chachai falls, Teonthar, Mauganj,
Hanumana, Gurh and Sirmaur constitute useful excursions.
The nearest airport is at Jabalpur. Bhopal Airport is 420 km to the west. Rewa Railway Station is a terminus point of the railhead from Satna. Nearest major railhead is at Satna.
National Highway 7 and
National Highway 75 passes through Rewa. Regular buses connect the town with Bhopal, Jabalpur, Mandla (233 km), Satna, Tikamgarh and Lucknow (241 km).
