Kal Bhairava Temple is located near
Bhairogarh in
Ujjain District of
Madhya Pradesh. It is said to have been built by king Bhadrasen on the banks of
Shipra River.
This ancient temple is dedicated to Kal Bhairava, the chief among the eight Bhairavas. The worship of Kal Bhairava is a part of Shaivite tradition, mainly by the Kapalika and Aghora sects.
The striking feature of the Kal Bhairava Temple is its exquisite paintings in Malwa style, only traces of which are noticeable.
