Jai Vilas Palace




Jai Vilas Palace, a European style palace converted into museum, is situated in Gwalior. It has an Italian structure which combines the Tuscan and Corinthian architectural styles. Gwalior is situated 120 km southeast of Agra.

Built by the Maharaja Jiyaji Rao Scindia, the palace is adorned with furniture from Versailles, ornate mirrors, Venetian cut glass swing, two Belgian chandeliers (each weighing 3.5 tons and measuring 12.5 m high), handmade carpet (the largest in Asia 40 m long), a huge dining table and an antique Rolls Royce.

The palace is open on all days from 10:00 hrs to 17:00 hrs except on Mondays.

Sun Temple, Mausoleum of Muhammad Gaus, Tombs of Tansen and Muhammad Gaus, Man Mandir Palace and Bandi Chhor Gurdwara are the major tourist attractions near the Jas Vilas Palace.
