Deori is a charming town situated on the banks of Sukhchain River, on the Narsinghpur road, in
Sagar District,
Madhya Pradesh. This 400-year-old settlement is 64 km south-east of
Sagar and is 240 km north-east of
Bhopal.
Ramgarh or Ujargarh, as the town was earlier known, was founded by a Chandela king in the 17th century. Later the town was rechristened as ‘Deori’, meaning the ‘abode of God’, after a temple was constructed at this place.
Major point of attraction here is an ancient fort thought to be built by the Chandela raja. Noradehi Wildlife Sanctuary, Khurai, Nainagiri, Rahatgarh and Rehli constitute interesting excursions outside Deori.
Nearest airport is at Bhopal. Sagar Railway Station serves the town.
National Highway 26 passes through Deori.
