Gold Brocades add an extra gloss to a fabric through the patterns made using gold threads.
Gujarat is renowned for this art.
Silk-satin is the commonly used base cloth on which the patterns are created using threads made of gold. Colored threads are used for creating designs on the border of the cloth.
The motifs created include flower patterns, stylish shrubs, mango (a common Indian motif) and a circular coin referred to as ‘ashrafi.’ Other popular designs include delicate patterns, animals, fruits, persons involved in dance, peacocks, women waving fans and different images of lotus.
