Bhojeshwar Temple is a 12th century
Shiva temple located in
Bhojpur,
Madhya Pradesh. Bhojpur is about 28 km south-east of
Bhopal along the highway to
Hoshangabad.
Believed to have been built during the reign of Paramara king Bhojadeva, this beautiful temple houses the tallest Shivling in the country. The lingam rises to a height of 8 ft with a circumference of 18 ft. The architectural harmony of lingam and platform creates a superb synthesis of solidity and lightness.
Bhojeshwar Temple has a richly carved dome supported by four pillars. Though incomplete, the bracket capitals of the pillars are adorned with intricately carved images of Shiva-Parvati, Lakshmi-Narayana, Brahma-Savitri and Ram-Sita.
A large number of people throng here on the occasion of Shivratri for the special rituals conducted through the night.
Bhopal Junction Railway Station is the nearest railhead. Regular bus connects Bhojpur with Bhopal.
