Amarkantak




Amarkantak is a highly revered pilgrim center for the Hindus, situated in Anuppur District of Madhya Pradesh. Perched at an altitude of 1065 m above sea level, at the meeting point of the Vindhya-Satpura mountain ranges, it is the main source of the Narmada and Son rivers.

With its lofty hills, sylvan surroundings, numerous holy ponds, charming little ponds, glittering waterfalls and an ever-pervading air of serenity, Amarkantak is a much sought after destination for both pilgrims and nature lovers.

Narmada Udgam, the source of Narmada River, is the holiest spot in Amarkantak. Dhuni Pani and Dugdhdhara and Kapildhara waterfalls are other spots worth visiting.

The nearest airport is Jabalpur (246 km). Pendra Road Railway Station (17 km) and Anuppur Junction Railway Station are the closest railhead. By road, Amarkantak is well linked with Shahdol, Umaria, Jabalpur and Rewa.
