Rajnandgaon, the administrative headquarters of
Rajnandgaon District, is an ancient town situated 80 km from
Raipur, in
Chhattisgarh. Steeped in history, the town was earlier under the rule of Somvanshis, Kalchuris and Marathas – the relics of those days tell volumes about its rulers, society and culture.
Places of tourist interest include the pilgrim town of Dongargarh (40 km) and Khairagarh (37 km.) Accommodations are available in Govt. rest houses and lodges.
Nearest airport is at Raipur. Rajnandgaon is situated on the Mumbai-Howrah line of the
South Eastern Railways.
National Highway 6 (Great Eastern Road) passes through the town.
