Satna District




Satna District is situated in mid-northern part of Madhya Pradesh. It lies on the Vindhyan Plateau. Satna has an area of 7,500 sq km. The history of Satna district forms part of the history of Baghelkand, a very large portion of which was ruled by the treaty state of Rewa.

The Tons, Son, and Paisuni are the chief rivers. The principal tourist destination is Maihar. Satna is also famous for an ancient city of Buddhist culture named ' Bharhut', whose archeological remains have been gifted to the major museums in the country and the world. The temple of Lord Shiva at Birsinghpur is famous. Tulsi museum at Ramvan is another important tourist spot. Satna is covered by forests and hills. Common animals found are tiger, panther, sambhar, chital, wild bear and deer.
