Ratlam District is situated in the western part of
Madhya Pradesh. The total area is 4,861 sq km and the population is 1.2 million. It receives an average rainfall of 900 mm. Ratlam has several chemical factories. Well-known for its strawberry and grapes, the other main crops here are soyabean, wheat, gram and maize.
Some of the most famous temples are Kalika Mata Temple, Bilpakeshwara temple at Bilpank and the Shiva temple at Jhar. Places of tourist importance are Cactus Garden at Sailana, Jhar, Jaora, and the Kharmore Bird sanctuary near Sailana.
