Juma mosque, situated at
Minicoy Island in
Lakshadweep, is regarded with equal importance by both the local Muslim population and the archaeologists. This historic monument, believed to haave been built during the medieval period, holds some rare artifacts. Notable among them is the ‘rai hilai,’ literally meaning ‘red stone.’ This is believed by experts to be the remains of an ancient stone anchor, pointing to the ancient sea faring culture of this island.
