Markakalyanag, performed for boys between 6 and 12 years, is a popular custom in
Lakshadweep Islands. This circumcision is the responsibility of child's father and is done by a barber. The ceremony is arranged at mother's house and the father sends all the articles required. In
kalpeni, the ceremony is conducted in the father's place.
