Violin, western by origin, is a four stringed musical instrument. It is preferred both as a solo and a concert instrument.
Violin is made of wood, and consists of four cords. These cords have relatively low sound range and volume.
It is played with a bow, and is held between the shoulder and the chin. During performance, the right hand controls the producing sound and the left hand directs the height and quality of various notes.
In India, Violin is an integral part of both Hindustani and Carnatic classical forms. Tabla or Pakhawaj is played to provide the rhythm while performance.
Among the exponents of violin are L Subramanium, M S Gopalkrishna and N Rajam.
