Valapattanam, also known as Baliapattom, is a small town, located on the banks of Valapattanam River, in
Kannur District of
Kerala. It is about 7 km from
Kannur.
The town is famous for its wood-based industries and timber trade. It is the chief source of the irrigation project in the district.
The major attractions include a harbour and the Western India Plywoods Limited, the largest wood-based industry in India. Azhikkal Port and Azhikkal Beach are located nearby.
Kannur Railway Station is the nearest railhead. Calicut Airport is located 93 km from Kannur town.
