Lokanarkavu Bhagavathi Temple




Lokanarkavu Bhagavathi Temple is situated at Memunda, around 5 km from Vadakara. The temple is dedicated to goddess Durga. It also has two adjacent shrines dedicated to Vishnu and Shiva. There are three rock cut caves in the temple premises which are artfully engraved with beautiful carvings and fascinating murals. According to legend, the temple is more than 1500-years-old. The candid murals and carvings here are a delight to art lovers. Associated with the heroes and heroines of the Vadakkanpattu, it combines an arresting simplicity and a legendary aura. Two annual festivals are celebrated at Lokanarkavu Bhagavathi Temple in the months of Vrischikam (November-December) and Meenam (March-April). Mandalavilakku festival in Vrischikam is the most important one.
