Alathiyur Hanuman Temple is located at Alathiyoor in
Malappuram District. It is adjacent to the
Shri Rama Temple. It is said that
Lord Hanuman's idol was installed by Sage Vasishta. Hanuman is depicted as the obedient servant ready to depart to Lanka in search of Sita. The deity is seen standing leaning forward to hear his master’s words with a club in his hand.
The unique feature of the temple is that Hanuman is facing south. There is a platform to commemorate Hanuman’s leap over the sea to Lanka.
The main offering to Lord Hanuman in this temple is 'Pothi Avil.' This offering is made of hundred coconuts, hundred measures of rice flake (Avil), 28 kg of jaggery, 12 kg of country sugar, 750 grams of dry ginger and 800 grams of Jeera. All these are mixed together to form Pothi Avil. Devotees from all over Kerala and Tamil Nadu throng the temple seeking the blessings of Lord.
