Punarjanani

Punarjanani is an ancient cave located about 3 km from the Tiruvilvamala Temple in Thrissur. Tradition has it that this cave was built by Lord Vishwakarma, the celestial builder, at the command of Parashuram. Devotees believe that one can attain moksha by passing through Punarjanani. Thousands of people reach here, especially on Guruvayoor Ekadashi in November-December. Boulders, stones and pits in the cave render the journey through this cave, tedious for the devotees. There are some spots which lack air and may cause suffocation. Yet, thousands go through this ordeal with a smile, praying to the Lord. Devotees take bath in several holy tirthas after coming out of Punarjanani.

Punarjanani is also associated with the Pandava brothers. According to myth, Pandava brothers went through this legendary cave after praying at the temple.

Visitors can enjoy the sight of the famous Bharathapuzha that flows nearby. There are many small temples around.
