Thookkam is a ritual mainly performed in
Bhadrakali temples. In Thookkam, the performers get over a one wheeled platform over which a pillar like utholakam is attached. The utholakam has a hook at one end. After attaching the backside skin of the performer to the hook, the utholakam is then raised up. The dancer is thus suspend in the air almost horizontally and executes certain physical feats and dance movements. The whole platform is taken round the temple deity thrice.
