Kerala Piravi, also known as Kerala Day, is held on November 1 to celebrate the anniversary of the formation of
Kerala state. The word Kerala Piravi literally means birth of Kerala. After India got her independence, the southernmost part of India Travancore-Kochi, Malabar and Kasargod taluk were united into a state on November 1, 1956. This day is celebrated by the Keralites as Kerala Piravi.
On this day state-wide celebrations are held under various organizations. Most of the Keralites wear Kerala dress, Kasavu Mundu and Neryathu, on this occasion.
