The Kanakakunnu Palace is situated near the
Napier Museum. This palace was used by the Travancore royal family to entertain their guests in the earlier days. The palace is now under government custody. The palace and the sprawling grounds are the venue for many cultural meets and programmes. A week long festival of Indian classical dances is held at the Nishagandhi open air theatre in the Kanakakunnu Palace compound. A
food festival is also held at the Kanakakunnu Palace grounds.
