Sringeri Math is situated in
Kaladi,
Kerala, on the banks of the
Periyar River. It is believed to be the residence of
Adi Shankaracharya - the Advaita philosopher of the eighth century.
A black pole can be spotted at the entrance, which marks the exact spot where Sankaracharya was born. Also found here is Brindavan, the cremation spot of Aryamba, the mother of Sankaracharya.
The Madam enshrines two temples, one dedicated to Shankaracharya and Dakshinamurthy and the other to the Goddess Sharada.
A festival, which lasts for 10 days, is celebrated here during Navratri. Chariot procession and music concerts are the highlights. Vedic discourse and debates are organized during Shankara Jayanthi (the birthday of Shankaracharya).
Sringeri is open from 5:30 to 12:30 hrs and 15:30 to 20:00 hrs.
Located nearby are Crocodile Ghat and Sri Adi Shankara Keerthi Stambha, a nine-storied Mandapa.
