Nalukettu is a traditional style mansion of
Kerala. It was formerly the abode of wealthy and influential families such as
Nairs and
Brahmins. Nalukettu is built using wood and tiles, and the rules of Tachu Sasthra, which literally means the science of architecture, is adopted.
An enclosed courtyard, often referred to as Nadumuttam, is one of the unique features of this house. Nadumuttam is stupendous in its architecture.
Other prominent features are Padippura, Vadakkini and Padinjatti. Padippura is the entrance to the house. The rooms in the northern blocks are Vadakkini, and that in the western blocks are Padinjatti. The interiors are graced with antiques made from teak and sandal wood.
Among the popular palaces built in Nalukettu style are Padmanabhapuram Palace and Krishnapuram Palace.
