Karivellur

Karivellur, bordering Kasargod and Kannur, is a picturesque village located in Payyanur town. It is the birth place of Manakkadan Kurikkal, the originator of Theyyam, a ritualistic dance form of Kerala.

Main attraction is an ancient temple known as Karivellur Shiva Temple. Apart from this, temples like Kozhummal Maha Vishnu Temple, Vareekara Bhagavathy Kavu, Vaniyillam Someshwari Temple, Kozhummal Makeel Mundiyakavu and Peralam Bhagavathy Temple are nearby sacred spots.

Two mosques are also located here.

Visitors can enjoy the traditional art forms including Theyyam and Poorakali.
