Mala Synagogue, the erstwhile place of worship for the Jewish community, is located at the intersection of two commercial streets in Mala,
Thrissur.
Construction of the Mala Synagogue is quite similar to those at
Chennamangalam and Parur. The central bimah is built on a concrete or stone base while the ark is on the western wall. The balcony above the eastern entry to the sanctuary and the women's gallery behind it are common features in these monuments. An external stairway gives access to the balcony. Most of the items of religious importance, which were once inside the sanctuary, have been taken by the community while migrating to Israel.
Fallen into disuse for some time now, the lack of maintenance shows up on the walls and corners of the Mala Synagogue. The plaster over stone and bricks have fallen off while there are telling effects of the tropical climate on the walls. The vacant sanctuary is now used for meetings and events by the local authorities.
Cochin International Airport is the nearest to Mala Synagogue. Mala is well-connected by road with all major destinations in the state.
