Aruvikkara is a famous pilgrim center and tourist spot, situated at a distance of 16 km from Thiruvananthapuram city. A rock-shrine dedicated to 'Bhagavathi,' the divine embodiment of female power, is highly revered by the local people. It is situated on the banks of the Karamana River. The picturesque picnic spot, Aruvikkara Dam, is a major attraction of this place. The Durga Temple on the bank of the river has a stream full of fish that fearlessly come close to the shore to be fed by the visitors. Aruvikkara dam supplies water to Thiruvananthapuram city.
