Santhanpara

Santhanpara, a picturesque village, is nestled among the dense forest of Idukki District and is about 30 km from Munnar. The name Santhanpara is derived from the saint Santhamuni, who is believed to have meditated in this place. The Santhanparayar (river) originating from Mathikettan passes and flows through the village before draining into the Ponmudi Dam.

Situated at the foothills of Western Ghats, the magnificent stretch of the land with tea, pepper and cardamom beckons one into an aromatic and dreamy landscape. The mountains surrounding the place make it ideal for trekking and long walks.

The nearby attractions of Santhanpara are Mathikettan Mala (3 km), which is famous for rare flora, Bodi Mettu (12 km) and Anayirankal dam (9 km). Kurishumala and Shalom kunnu, nearby, provides ample opportunities for trekkers. A small waterfall that joins the Santhanparayar, about 3 km towards Nedumkandam, is an excellent picnic spot. The places of worship include Infant Jesus Church, SDA Church, Ganapathi Temple and a Masjid.

One can reach Santhanpara by road through the Ghat roads leading to Thekkady from Munnar.
