Shri Subrahmanya Swami Temple is located at Thazhakara, 3 km east of Mavelikara, on the Mavelikara–Pandalam Road in Alappuazha District. The temple dates back over 1000 years and is said to have connections with the Royal Family of Edappally. It is dedicated to Lord Muruga as Shadadhara Parathishta.

The deity is seen holding a sprig of paddy and fire (torch) in his hands showering blessings on his devotees. Other deities installed in the temple are Lord Krishna, Lord Ayyappa, Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesh, Devi, Yogeeswaran, Rakshas, Nagaraja, Nagayekshi, Maninagas and Karinagas, each with separate temple abodes and daily pujas.

Spread over an area of more than 1.5 acres, the temple assets include the land, pond and Nagakavu. The temple is under the administrative control of ‘Haindava Seva Samithi.’ Legend tells that the temple was built by a Yogeeswaran over thousand years ago. Later the title of the temple was found handed over to the Waryath family.

Thypooyam, the major festival, is celebrated on the Malayalam month of Makaram (January – February). Another ten-day festival is held during the Malayalam month Medam (April - May). Ayilyam in the month of Thulam and Chirappu in Vrischikam are also very auspicious days.
